Adulting in 2022 & Beyond: Balancing Personal / Family / Work Life in a Post-Covid World

Adjusting to life at the peak of the global Covid-19 pandemic was challenging enough.  But as the pandemic evolves, “adulting,” and the constantly shifting balancing act it requires, continues to feel like an impossible juggle!  Between work, family, childcare and/or eldercare, the ability to be mentally present and be our best selves grows increasingly difficult.  Having little or no consistency, life’s routine calls for us to be ever so agile and adaptable, ever more so than pre-2020.  Let’s talk about it and share some practical advice for adulting in this “new age” world.


Tammy J. Samuels’ Bio:

As the senior leader of the Career & Leadership team, Tammy directs the strategy, development, and administration of the career coaching, operations, executive leadership development, and employer engagement & recruiting functions that support our current MBA students, as well as all UNC Kenan-Flagler alumni.

She brings nearly 25 years of diverse experience in leadership, strategy, and career coaching in private, public, and proprietary institutions of higher education.  Before joining UNC Kenan-Flagler, she served as the Assistant Vice President for the Office of Career and Internship Services at LIM College in NYC.  Tammy holds certification from the Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM) and received her M.A. from Montclair State University, and a B.A. from Rutgers University.


Mark Flickinger’s Bio:

Mark is General Partner and Chief Operating Officer at Panoramic Ventures, one of the most active venture capital firms in the Southeast. Before joining the team in 2015, Mark worked for 4th Strand, a product performance consulting firm that was acquired by Intertek in 2012, where he held leadership roles covering project management, product development, HR/recruiting, operations, and sales. Previously, Mark worked at Medarex, a biotech startup developing therapeutics for cancer and autoimmune diseases and in the oral care division of Church & Dwight, a consumer products company.

Mark has an MBA in General Management and Entrepreneurship from The University of North Carolina Kenan-Flagler Business School and a B.S.E. in Mechanical Engineering from Princeton University. Additionally, he was a member of the US National Rowing Team from 2001-2008.

Mark serves on the board for Venture Atlanta, AchieveIt, and VoApps. He is an avid father, cyclist, runner, and skier, both downhill and water.


Tara Flickinger’s Bio:

Tara grew up in Connecticut before attending Brown University where she concentrated in Business Economics and Public and Private Sector Organizations and captained the Women’s Golf Team.  Tara worked at sports marketing firm, Octagon, and sold pharmaceuticals for Pfizer before joining the full time MBA class of 2011.  While at KFBS, Tara served as President of Carolina Women in Business.  She interned and later accepted a full time role in the Private Wealth Management division of Goldman Sachs.  Today Tara is a Partner at ON Partners, an executive search firm specializing in VP, C-level and Board Search.  She has served on the KFBS Alumni Council and is an active member of the Atlanta Alumni Chapter.  She is the proud mom of Tar Heel fans Finley (8), Piper (7) and Foster (2).


Diana Berry’s Bio:

Diana Berry is an Industrial Engineer, a US Customs Licensed Broker and currently works as a Global Supply Chain Specialist at Harsco Rail based in Columbia, SC.

Diana is also the current UNC Alumni Leadership Council Vice-Chair and a 2015 MBA at UNC Alumni. In her free time, she enjoys playing violin at her local orchestra, leading the Orchestra Executive Board, and teaching Zumba fitness.


Brandi Morales-Espinal’s Bio:

Brandi Morales-Espinal is a Client Delivery Leader at Luminas and leads the global delivery team. She helps clients navigate changing industry landscapes, leads cross-functional teams to assess value propositions and business operations — helping organizations identify growth opportunities with customers and stakeholders.

Brandi has led the development of winning customer value propositions and customer-centric organic growth strategies for global clients in a range of industries, including: technology; apparel; specialty chemicals; commercial real estate and non-profit associations.

Prior to joining Luminas, she worked at PwC in their consulting practice where she worked the Top 20 financial institutions.

She is 2010 MBA graduate of UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School.


Joanna Maxham’s Bio:

Joanna (Malinowska) Maxham is the Co-Owner and CMO of Apex Creative – a New York & Miami based boutique creative & marketing agency and production house dedicated to brand building through content creation, social media and digital marketing. Her clients include luxury skincare, fashion, food & beverage brands, and a global B2B corporation.

Prior to Apex Creative, Joanna has successfully launched and developed a namesake handbag & accessories brand JOANNA MAXHAM. The collection sold in +100 Independent retailers in the US, Japan and Europe, and is currently carried by online retailers including Neiman Marcus, Lord & Taylor, Hudson Bay (Canada) & Zappos. Before starting her handbag line, Joanna held corporate positions with IBM and the Boston Consulting Group.

Joanna received her Masters in Economics from the University of Lodz in Poland, and a Master’s in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
